Masala dal Navaratna

Todays Recipe : Masala  dal Navaratna

Ingredients:

  1. Navaratna Dal (Mixture of  Rajmah, Chick pea, Bengal gram dal, Bengal gram, Split peas, Green Mung beans, Red lentil, Black lentil, Soy bean) : 200 gm
  2. Onion chopped: 100 gm
  3. Ripe tomato chopped : 50 gm
  4. Green chili chopped: 10 gm
  5. Ginger-garlic paste: 2 tablespoon
  6. Whole cumin seed: 1/2 tea spoon
  7. Coriander powder-cumin powder-red chili powder-turmeric powder: 1 tablespoon
  8. Bay Leaves: 2 gm
  9. Coriander Leaves chopped: 5 gm
  10. Dried Red chili: 2 gm
  11. Cinamon powder-clove powder-cardamom powder: 1 teaspoon
  12. Rice bran oil: 2 tablespoon 
  13. Water: 2 cups
  14. Salt-sugar: As per taste

Processing :

  • At first add Navaratna dal to a large bowl.
  • Rinse it very well several time and discard the water.Soak it for 1 night
  •  After that Drain the water from the dal now then set a pressure cooker on a oven and add Navaratna dal,  2 cups water  and pinch of salt in it. Then wait for 4 whistles. Then put off the flame.
  • Heated Rice bran  oil in a deep pan then add whatever whole spices you have - bay leaf, whole cumin seed and dry red chili. Fry them till you get an aroma just for a minute.
  • Add chopped onion , ginger-garlic paste and pinch of salt. Saute them for 2 minutes.
  • Then add  chopped tomato and chopped green chili , saute till you get a nice aroma.
  • Then add Coriander powder-cumin powder-red chili powder-turmeric powder and 1 tablespoon water and cook the masala over medium flame until it starts leaving the oil (1-2 minutes approx).
  • Then add the pressure cooked whole item  into the deep pan and mix it well with them.
  • Then add salt as per taste . Cook for 10 minutes.
  • Finish with a sprinkle of Cinamon powder-clove powder-cardamom powder and chopped coriander leaf.
  • Turn off the flame

This dish is  full of plant protein as the presence of variety of dal in a single bowl. Time for Snacks:   Crispy Lentil cutlet Ingredients: Soaked and paste lentil: 100 gm Whole egg: 2 pieces  Chopped onion: 2 tablespoon Chopped green chili: 1 tablespoon Chopped capsicum: 1 tablespoon Cumin- coriander powder: 1 teaspoon   Black pepper powder: 1 teaspoon Bread crumbs: 3 tablespoon Cornflour: 1 tablespoon Fresh chopped coriander leaves: 1 tablespoon Salt & Sugar: As per taste Rice bran oil: 4 tablespoon Processing: In a deep pan heat the oil and add chopped onion , saute for few minutes until it became soft and light golden in color.
